When art and history merge

This creative, accessible and immersive exhibition, which will be held until January 11, 2026, replaces Aeria, having enjoyed great success and even won an Award of Excellence awarded by the Société des musées du Québec.

Six impressive works of art

Through six fascinating artistic creations, you will relive the torments, dilemmas and exploits of ordinary people plunged into an extraordinary situation. This winter siege of 1775 constituted one of the first major military operations of the American War of Independence. It is also unique in its kind because of the weather conditions in which it takes place, the stakes and the ambivalent political position of French Canadians.

“Six contemporary visual artists recreate, with different techniques and various materials such as stained glass, recycled fabric and paper, the highlights of this invasion. Their works make us feel the arduous expedition of the Americans to Quebec, marked by the confrontation of the rapids of the Chaudière River, the winter cold, famine and disease. The exhibition culminates in the attack of December 31, 1775, where the British subjects repulsed the American rebels,” mentions Stéphane Roy, director of museum services at the National Battlefields Commission.

Narration by a spy

“During the invasion, a French Canadian woman who lived in Quebec acted as an informant for the British forces by spying on the Americans. Visitors will be able to listen to the captivating story of this woman named Marie-Barbe Loiselle, nicknamed Baboche, who adds a unique touch and provides a point of view from the inside, a bit as if we were there,” adds Mr. Roy.

You will therefore be able to follow the version of the facts of this spy of the time with a headset and an interactive tablet. Among the multimedia content offered, you will find a sound environment by designer Josué Beaucage and historical representations by designer Andréa Bourget Méndez .

Gateway to the Plains, the Plains of Abraham Museum once again merges, with magnificence and sensitivity, art and history in this rereading of the events of our history, and that of North America .
