What exactly happened? According to the mayor of the town, Vincent Geoffroid, the hunters heard a gunshot while they were participating in the hunt. However, there were no witnesses to the shooting scene. “It seems that it was an accident, perhaps linked to improper handling of the weapon,” suggests the chief magistrate of Coly-Saint-Amand.

No hypothesis is excluded

The Périgueux public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the causes of death. Hunting accident, suicide or homicide? The prosecution does not exclude any hypothesis at this stage. An autopsy of the body must be carried out this week at the Medico-Legal Institute. The victim's weapon, found near the remains, and his vehicle were seized by soldiers from the Sarlat company gendarmerie.

This Sunday evening, the gendarmes from the Sarlat research brigade (BR) interviewed the hunters present at the hunt. They were to be joined on site by agents of the French Biodiversity Office (OFB), whose technical knowledge justified the request.
