The territorial rugby committee of Island met in an elective general assembly this Saturday, November 2, 2024. The list elected to the steering committee is headed by Jean-Michel Piron, who succeeds Daniel Blondy.

This Saturday, November 2, 2024, the territorial rugby committee of Reunion Island met in a general assembly in La Saline, in order to elect its new steering committee.

The outgoing president, Daniel Blondy, did not run again after two terms. To succeed him, Jean-Michel Piron was chosen. The one who was president of the Saint-Pierre rugby club for 30 years explains having been “chosen as the head of the list by people who want to get involved in the committee“.

His priorities:make rugby a showcase for Reunionese sport, he advances, but also the number 2 team sport in Reunion“. Among other things, by increasing the number of licensees, developing the high level, and spreading more internationally. For the record, the committee today brings together 17 clubs on the island.

Everything does not start from scratch, however: what was done by Daniel Blondy, the former president, during the last eight years of his mandate will be preserved, but improved. “We're going to keep these things that were great, amplify them, and bring a little extra“, underlines Jean-Michel Piron.

Jean-Michel Piron will make a good president, and he has young volunteers from Reunion who are getting involved with him. Reunion rugby will continue to evolve“, he assures.
