Tuesday May 28, the Didier-Lamoulie college welcomed 150 Occitanist students from the four corners of the department: Marmande, Penne-d’Agenais, Agen, Monsempron-Libos, Meilhan-sur-Garonne and Miramont, of course. This meeting brought together all levels of the Occitan-French sector, from kindergarten to college, on the theme “Femnas d’Oc” (Women of Oc). Women who made the history of Occitania: writers, fighters and supporters of the language.

To honor this educational project, the students were greatly involved throughout the year, through poetry and the creation of slogans in Occitan, on the theme of freedom, based on poems written by women.

With the support of the town hall, the event began in the morning at the Basane room, where an exchange took place with the poet Paulina Kamakine. Special mention of the Rimbaud Prize of the Maison de la théâtre de Paris 2023, master of games at the Academy of Floral Games of Toulouse, she is distinguished by her work and her cultural dynamism in favor of the Occitan language. This moment continued with a small traditional ball, where the students were able to rediscover collective dances.

“Millennium language”

Back at the school, after the lunch break, the 150 students gathered in the courtyard to perform three songs in Occitan, including “La Sobirana” by the group Los Pagalhos. The afternoon was devoted to workshops carried out by different associations and exchanges between students, to discover the work carried out throughout the year.

“Occitan in college is taught as a complementary subject to the common core,” underlines Cynthia Tapie, professor at Didier-Lamoulie. This year, the students of 5e at 3e were able to benefit from it. Next year, those of 6e could also have access to it. Occitan is the age-old, heritage and historical language of our region. It is perennial, strongly established and feeds on the richness of its culture and its history, to continue moving forward in modernity.”
