Recently the wedding hall of Livadais town hall welcomed high school students and members of the citizens’ council.

Following an order from the municipality, everyone was brought together for the presentation of the work carried out by the young learners. Two second-year classes from the Etienne-Restat high school worked on the “community botanical park” project, which will see the light of day in the heart of the Enclos park.

Since the end of last year, students have met local elected officials who asked them to select species of trees or shrubs likely to represent the origins of the communities gathered in the commune.

To tell, through this natural space, part of the local history. “We went to meet members of the Livradais communities in order to carry out interviews, and talk about plants from the regions and countries from which they come, but also memories.”

Following these interviews, at the end of 2023, the high school students then had to carry out research and then explanatory sheets which summarized the needs of each type of plant listed, according to the regions from which they originate.

In the end, the Livradais high school students selected and presented to their audience 13 plants to represent 7 communities.

Cork oak, lime, ginkgo biloba, arbutus, myrtle, spruce, among others, were presented in detail to symbolize the Portuguese, Romanian, Italian, Indochinese and North African communities.

At the end of the presentation, Mayor Pierre-Jean Pudal praised the work of the high school students and suggested that they present it again to the municipal council. “You have perfectly responded to the request that was made to you. Thanks to these plantations, we will be able to achieve the objective that we have set for ourselves: to remind ourselves that we are a cosmopolitan territory. This having been made possible thanks to our local youth, which is our living force and our future.” The Antoine company will take care of the plantings which will take place in the fall of 2024, for an inauguration planned for spring 2025.
