Sensory discovery of Earth’s ecosystems at the ROM

This summer, since June 1, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) invites its visitors to immerse themselves in the heart of nature in the exhibition Earth – An immersive experience. The visitor will explore five ecosystems that will appeal to their sight, hearing and smell:

  • a slow descent through the canopy of a rainforest;
  • a journey through green ecosystems where bats flutter;
  • an incursion into underground galleries teeming with life;
  • a walk through arid meadows populated with insects;
  • a hike in the Far North.
Five ecosystems to explore virtually at the ROM.

Designed by Studio Sensory Odyssey and produced in partnership with the National Museum of Natural History, in Paris, the exhibition is on display until January 12, 2025.

The exceptional quality of the images (8K high definition), shot expressly for the exhibition around the world in 2020 and 2021, immerses the visitor in the heart of the action.

The soundscapes, recreated from natural ambiances, and the olfactory effects offer a sensory experience combining visual poetry and cutting-edge technology.

Environment to protect

“My research takes me to some of the most remote regions on earth, where I see the ever-increasing encroachment of human activity into ecosystems,” says Nathan Lujan, associate curator of fish and lead curator of the exhibition presentation at the ROM.
