Sabah Aib, 18, candidate from Nord-Pas-de-Calais for Miss France 2025, has faced a wave of racism on social networks since her election last Saturday, indicates Le Parisien. Of Algerian and Moroccan origin, this law student revealed on Instagram that she faces racist “attacks”, which she describes as “a reflection of ignorance and jealousy”. While asserting her French identity, she made a point of recalling that “France is a multicultural country” and that “my name is part of my identity, but it has nothing to do with my nationality,” writes the daily.
Born in France, Sabah Aib insists that her origins “are part of [son] history, but do not define who [elle] East “. She says she is proud to represent her region and to wear her title, despite the attacks she has suffered. “Hate has no place in our society,” she declared, affirming that she wanted to continue to promote values of equality and diversity.
Sadness at these racist attacks
The regional delegate of the Miss France committee, Anne-Sophie Sevrette, expressed her sadness at these attacks, while stressing that Sabah Aib could make history if she became the first Miss France of North African origin, which would “finally open spirits.” She also stressed that the candidate knew “who she is” and that this made her “proud of her origins”.
Racist controversies are unfortunately not new in Miss France competitions. In 2020, April Benayoum, Miss Provence, was the subject of violent anti-Semitic attacks after revealing her father's Israeli origins. She filed a complaint, and several people were convicted. Eve Gilles, Miss France 2024, had also suffered virulent criticism of her physique after her election, suffering “body shaming” because of her short hair and her slim figure.
