Dakar, Oct 20 (APS) – Guinea, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone have been disqualified from the Union of West African Federations Zone A (UFOA-A) under-17 football tournament , for having exceeded the number of ineligible players after MRI tests, we learned on Sunday from this governing body.

“The medical team of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has notified us of the results of the MRI tests of the teams participating in the U17 CAN UFOA A qualifying tournament. The MRI tests carried out reveal that three (03) teams have exceeded the number of ineligible players,” reads a press release from the UFOA-A competition department.

The text recalls that according to CAF regulations, a team is disqualified if “four or more of its players are deemed ineligible”, after the MRI eligibility test.

In conclusion, the U17 national teams of Guinea, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone are disqualified from the tournament which should begin this Sunday in Thiès, Senegal.

The Gambia national team also saw the “withdrawal of two of its players deemed ineligible”, indicates the same source.

Following these disqualifications, CAF reorganized the competition calendar which was to start this Sunday, with eight teams.

From now on, five nations will participate in the tournament which will finally begin on Monday in Thiès, with Senegal facing Mali at 3 p.m. GMT.

The U17 Lions will then meet Gambia on Wednesday at the same time, before taking on Liberia on October 27, at 6 p.m. GMT, for their third outing.

Senegal will finally meet Mauritania on November 2, at 6 p.m. GMT.

All matches will be held at the Lat-Dior stadium in Thiès.
