The popular chef Philippe Mollé has breathed his last. For more than 24 years, he was a columnist on Joël Le Bigot’s show on -, during which he shared his passion for cooking.

Philippe Mollé “left us yesterday peacefully in his sleep at the age of 72,” writes columnist Bruno Guglielminetti on his website. Both men participated in the podcast Plates and forks ensembles.

“Tomorrow we had to record a new episode, where Philippe, always inspired and passionate, planned to talk to us about seasonal spices,” shares Bruno Guglielminetti.

Born in , Philippe Mollé moved to Quebec in 1980. Previously, he was a cook in Tahiti, Japan and Ivory Coast. He was kitchen manager of the Technological Research Center of the Institut de Tourisme et d’Hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ) for five years. He then served as executive chef of the restaurant at the Vogue Hotel in Montreal.

The cook was decorated with the title of Knight of Agricultural Merit in France.

“His absence will leave a great void, but his contributions and his gastronomic legacy will continue to live on through the flavors and stories that he generously shared with us,” comments Mr. Guglielminetti, on his website.

A citizen of Contrecœur in Montérégie for 30 years, Philippe Mollé was very involved in his community, as an ambassador for local products. He held the position of chairman of the governance committee of the Nurturing Community Development Plan within the city.

Philippe Mollé was also designated as maple ambassador by the Quebec Maple Syrup Producers. He served as a mentor to other chefs in the use of the resulting products.

As luck would have it, National Maple Day is celebrated in Canada this Sunday.

“It’s an extraordinary product, blond gold. It has very great value for me,” declared Philippe Mollé, on the Érable Québec site.

The cook was also a newspaper columnist Duty until 2016, in addition to participating in the writing of several books.
