A qualified optician in then in Clermont-Ferrand, Tiphanie Terrade, 28, was called back by her native Creuse and by the family business that she took over in June in Felletin.

The company is located on the edge of the Creuse, in a deep valley, where this rainy autumn the river is particularly noisy. On this site, in 1913, the Terrade family bought the cloth mill which it subsequently converted into a spinning mill.

In June, Tiphanie Terrade, 28, became the president of the family SAS which took over from the SARL run by her grandfather and then by her father.

By attachment to Felletin and the spinning mill

Tiphanie grew up in Felletin, she attended the town’s middle school then the Aubusson high school. She then obtained a BTS in optician-eyewear maker in Lyon. She worked in this profession for several years in Lyon then in Clermont-Ferrand. However, she was torn by the desire to live in her native Creuse and resume spinning.

“I left at 18, I wanted to see something else. The city is good, the countryside is even better. »

So, for a year, the young woman has been living in Felletin. She prepared the takeover of the company, which delighted Michel, the 86-year-old grandfather, still present at the spinning mill, and Thierry, her father, 59 years old.

Attachment to Felletin and the family business influenced Tiphanie’s decision-making, also encouraged by the dynamism of the wool sector, by the action of Lainamac from Felletin-Aubusson, by the now international influence of Felletin wool days.

With six employees

has around ten spinning mills, two of which are located in Creuse, where they complement each other.
The Terrade spinning mill, certified as a living heritage company, includes the spinning mill itself (four employees) and the dyeing facility (two dyers). The company therefore relies on six people, not including Tiphanie. She took the time to take stock of the situation and think about means of development. Its priority is to improve working conditions in buildings that bear the weight of decades.

A dry cleaner…

This is particularly the case for the dyeworks which has completely renewed its staff, largely trained by Thierry Roger and the buyer of the Aubusson dyeworks, Nadia Petkovic.

Manon Fleuret, a young woman with a background in Fine Arts, learned the profession on the job. She is on a professionalization contract. She teams up with a young Guinean, married and father of a family, who will sign a permanent contract after obtaining his residence permit.

…and a spinning mill

The four employees of the spinning mill have been working for years, they are now in their fifties. The impressive professions of the 1940s and 1950s have no secrets for them. They know how to take care of them and ensure their maintenance. As in the dyeing works, they work mainly with French wool. It is intended for the hosiery, tapestry and carpet sector, in particular for the Pinton Manufacture and for artisan weavers.

More and more, breeders, tired of ridiculous sales prices, are adding value to the wool from their herd and are therefore calling on Terrade. The clientele is regional but above all national. A small part of the production is sold, in the spinning mill shop, during guided tours provided by the Felletin heritage environment association.

The proceeds from the wool days represent almost a month of the company’s annual turnover! Also, Tiphanie will ensure the attractiveness of her stand on October 25, 26 and 27.
