8 seminarians in Martinique and 4 in Guadeloupe

Currently, the diocese of Fort-de-France in Martinique has 8 seminarians – including two deacons who will be ordained priests.

Regarding seminarians, the diocese of Fort-de-France communicates:

Saint John Paul II House is the diocesan seminary of Martinique founded in 2015 by Mgr David Macaire, and of which Fr. Jacques Platon is today in charge.

Currently, there are 8 seminarians in training in our diocese of Martinique:

The seminar lasts at least 6 years and is made up of two cycles:

  • The first cycle lasts two years and is called the philosophy cycle.
  • The 2nd cycle is a theological cycle including internships in parishes

As a general rule, our seminarians begin their first cycle in Martinique and do their second in mainland France then return for their internship in a parish.

This adventure of faith began for some, a few years ago, at the Foyer Dominique Savio, a home for young people in Martinique which raises the question of the priestly vocation. Young people presented their application to enter the seminary. It was a challenge when our bishop David Macaire decided to open a training place for seminarians in Martinique, under the name “Maison Saint Jean-Paul II”.

That of Guadeloupe (Basse-Terre) has four seminarians, but the new bishop Mgr Guiougou, interviewed on KTO in November 2023, hopes to encourage other vocations.
