Four teams qualified on Saturday for the quarter-finals of the World Championship taking place in the Czech Republic. In the Ostrava group, which is that of the French team, beaten by Slovakia (4-2), Sweden validated its ticket, dominating Latvia (7-2). The Scandinavians are the only ones in the tournament to have won their first five matches in regulation time.

In the same group, Germany occupies second place, after defeating Poland (4-2). Leading 3-0, the Germans scared themselves when their opponent came back to 3-2 four minutes from time. But a goal from John Peterka ultimately secured their victory. Germany, Slovakia, United States and Latvia can still qualify for the quarters. France, Kazakhstan and Poland are eliminated.

Finland, Denmark or Austria in the quarterfinals?

In the Prague group, the Czech Republic, Canada and Switzerland qualified. Host country, the Czechs beat modest Great Britain (4-1), including two goals from Lukas Sedlak. Canada defeated Finland (5-3), after being down 2-0. Goalkeeper Jordan Binnington made 29 saves. Finally, Switzerland crushed Denmark (8-0), with three points scored by Nico Hischier and Kevin Fiala.

In this group, the fourth and last place for the quarter-finals will be played between the Finns, the Danes and Austria, at rest on Saturday. Great Britain is out of the race.
