Murder in Laval: identity of victim revealed, young man accused

Irina Draghicescu Iankulov, a real estate agent for the Sutton Excellence Group for 15 years, lost her life on Wednesday in the Chomedey district after being attacked with a knife. She was allegedly stabbed several times.

She is the 14th woman to be murdered in the province since the start of the year.

Konstantinos Tsagaroulis, the 20-year-old suspect, was questioned most of the night, he being arrested a few minutes after the murder. He appeared in court Wednesday afternoon to face the charge of first degree murder.

During the hearing, the accused appeared to be conscious, according to the criminal and penal prosecutor on file. However, the defense plans to request an evaluation of Mr. Tsagaroulis’s mental state.

The connection between the two people is unknown. One thing is certain, there is no “kinship” link, said Stéphanie Beshara, spokesperson for the Laval police in an interview with Noovo Info. The victim and suspect are residents of Laval and are not known to authorities.

The victim died on the spot despite resuscitation measures. The suspect fled by car to take refuge in a building on 66th avenue, in the Chomedey district, where he was arrested thanks to information provided by witnesses.

Testimonies from neighbors

Interviewed by Noovo Info, residents in the neighborhood say they are in shock and fear for their safety.

“We are no longer safe,” said a man, who said he saw the suspect fleeing into the street. “He got into the gardens almost everywhere. He came in from behind. He smashed someone’s window in the basement. He stayed there until the police came.”

The Sutton Excellence Group also says it is upset by the death of its employee. The company declined all interview requests.

For his part, Konstantinos Tsagaroulis will return to court on June 20.
