Two injured in hit-and-run accident on cycling cruise

Last Sunday, during the last stage of the cycling cruise organized by the Vélo Club de Tahiti, tourists were victims of a road accident. The driver of the vehicle who fled injured two women. Among them, Priska, a slightly affected Canadian, who testifies. Another woman suffered three broken ribs and a pneumothorax. Complaints have been filed and an investigation is underway.

The worst was avoided last Sunday in Vairao. While the 300 tourists engaged in the cycling cruise organized by the Vélo Club de Tahiti embarked on the last stage in tandem, going from the peninsula to Papeete, a vehicle injured two cyclists. Priska Naverre, a Canadian national, was slightly injured after being “pushed” by the car which was traveling, like her, in the Vairao-Taravao direction. According to testimonies from other cyclists behind, the driver, who did not bother to stop, zigzagged for several hundred meters. In his race, he collided with another tandem piloted by American tourists who were less lucky than her: three broken ribs and a pneumothorax for this American participant. A misadventure which tarnishes this stay spent traveling the roads of Raiatea, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Huahine and Moorea. “It’s sad because we spent some beautiful days on the islands”says the Canadian. “Everyone has been kind and caring, and what happened is a shame. » The tourists of course filed a complaint, and the gendarmerie opened an investigation.
