Automobile congestion is likely to be particularly strong in the heart of the metropolis next weekend, since the Ville-Marie highway will be completely closed towards the east on a major section, between the Turcot interchange and the city center.

Published at 1:10 p.m.

This was indicated by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD) in a press release on Tuesday. Traffic will be interrupted eastbound for a total distance of approximately five kilometers, between the interchange and the entrance from rue de la Cathédrale, from Friday to Monday morning.

Quebec specifies that this closure “is required for the relocation of a major drain and repair work on the slab”, warning that “episodes of congestion are to be expected” in several sectors adjacent to the obstacle.

A detour will have to be put in place by temporary signage on Highway 15 heading south as well as on Highway 10 (Bonaventure Highway) heading west.

In the Turcot interchange, the two ramps from Highway 15 leading to the Ville-Marie highway will have to be closed, as will the one coming from Highway 20 East. The entrance to Boulevard des Tanneries leading to the Ville-Marie highway will also be closed.

Good news, however: the reserved lane of Highway 20 East will remain open. It is accessible from the Saint-Pierre and Montréal-Ouest interchanges.

Everything indicates that this closure will be required again this fall, says the Ministry of Transport, which assures that it will make the announcement as soon as possible. Users are invited to consult the government platform Québec 511 to better plan their trips.
