“The water should enter the holds of Rochebonne and the casino quite severely,” indicates Hugo Besnier, passionate about the sea.

It’s the return of high tides in Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine) from this Thursday, October 17, 2024. The coefficients will rise to 112.

A swell expected during the four days

For the moment, the weather models predict a swell “during the four days, unlike the September tides” where we had none at all”, indicates Hugo Besnier.

Although it should be moderate, be careful if you have to go to the seaside at the end of the week.

4 to 5 meters of swell off the coast of Finistère

“Saturday promises to be a good day for waves,” confirms Sébastien Decaux, meteorologist at Météo Bretagne. “The models predict 4 to 5 meters of swell off the coast of in Finistère. We will have a moderate swell, but strong enough to see a spectacle. There shouldn’t be too much flooding. The weather models may still evolve between now and Thursday, but it remains “a fairly classic autumn high tide”, continues the meteorologist.

Cars damaged in February 2024

This year 2024, high tides have caused damage to Saint-Malo. In February, several cars were damaged by the power of the waves. Several streets were also flooded.

In April, high tides, combined with the Karlotta depression, damaged the sea wall of the Brasserie du Sillon in Saint-Malo, forcing the town hall to temporarily close the restaurant and evacuate four homes.
