A new bounty is coming. Around 1.5 million employees will be able to benefit from this system, representing several hundred euros per year.

Good news is on the horizon for many French employees. From 1is January 2025, a new bonus will appear in the professional landscape, potentially affecting one and a half million workers. This measure, which is part of a desire to share value within companies, could result in an average annual gain of a few hundred to several thousand euros per beneficiary.

The concept of value sharing is not new in itself. For years, many companies, particularly the largest, have put in place systems aimed at involving their employees in the fruits of their growth. However, this practice was not systematic. It is precisely this point that the new measure aims to correct.

Concretely, this bonus can take different forms. This may be a participation or profit-sharing plan, a value-sharing bonus (formerly known as the “Macron bonus”), or even various employee savings plans. The objective remains the same: to allow employees to benefit directly from the good results of their company.

As a government practical sheet explains, “the principle consists of paying each employee a bonus linked to the performance of the company (profit-sharing) or representing a share of its profits (participation). The sums allocated can, as desired of the employee, be paid directly to him or be deposited in an employee savings plan.

The impact of this measure should not be underestimated. Participation and profit-sharing represented on average around 1,800 euros per year in 2021, according to data from Dares, the statistical organization specializing in the world of work. A significant amount that can make a real difference to household budgets.

However, it is important to note that this new obligation will not concern all companies. It will apply specifically to companies with between 11 and 49 employees, and only if they have been profitable for three consecutive years. This measure is presented as an experiment which will extend over a period of five years from 2025.

This bonus is already in place in many companies. It is mandatory for companies with more than 50 employees. In 2021, more than 5 million employees already benefited from it. The new measure therefore aims to extend this practice to a greater number of companies and employees.

It is important to emphasize that the bonus will not be paid from 1is January 2025. The transfer date will depend on the system put in place by the company. This initiative is part of a broader desire to “better distribute wealth” within companies, as highlighted by former MP Louis Margueritte in a 2023 parliamentary report.
