The new reverence for development in Senegal, commonly called “The Project”, is still a little too domesticated in Pastef, its initiator. If this program of the new government does not lack ambition, Pastef would do better to have it adopted by the masses so that it does not remain the exclusive thing of the party but of the homeland. This is the advice of Dr Mohamed Lamine Ly, activist of the Labor and Independence Party (PIT) and ally of Pastef who spoke in this interview granted to SenePlus.
For Dr Ly, it is clear and unequivocal, the Systemic Transformation Project can only succeed if it is popularized, shared and is adopted by all Senegalese people at the risk of becoming a fiasco. “To succeed, the popular masses must take ownership of this project.
Now, we have the impression that this is not the Project of the Fatherland, but it is still the project of the Party. They have an interest in putting it out there, asking people’s opinions, adapting it to what people think, but not thinking that it’s going to fall from the sky and that they’re really going to take us to heaven, that’s something something that must be built with the popular masses of our different countries,” argues Mohamed Lamine Ly.
Developed certainly by the Senegalese intelligentsia, in this case, that of Pastef, the Project makes a good impression on a good part of the Senegalese who castigate the Emerging Senegal Plan (PSE) of Macky Sall, accused of being sold to Senegal by a foreign cabinet, to be a budget-eater and above all to have put Senegal up to its neck in debt.
The new regime led by Diomaye Faye makes no secret of its desire to get rid of the Emerging Senegal Plan (PSE). Moreover, for the Seneplus guest, he should have been stopped much earlier for the reasons mentioned above.
On the question of accountability, Mohamed Lamine Ly is in favor of tracking down ill-gotten gains, but he wants all this to happen with strict respect for the rights of the accused who remain presumed innocent until further notice.
Thus, the new authorities should not be responsible for a certain cruelty or violation of the rights of the accused. It is not because we are right that we can do what we want to the other. No. While defending the regime, this “peripheral” ally does not hesitate to point out the points of weakness to be corrected in the governance of the new power, starting with the inclusion of the masses.
In addition, the regime has an interest, in Dr Ly’s opinion, in taking into account the observations of elders who, even if they have not been in power after decades of activism, have a certain experience which may be relevant. for the conduct of state affairs by the “Young team” in power since April 2, 2024.
