The Kremlin promised this Tuesday an “appropriate” response on the battlefield if kyiv strikes Russian soil with American long-range missiles, following Washington's green light on this subject.
What will Russia do if Ukraine hits its soil with long-range missiles supplied by the United States? This Monday, November 18, Russian diplomatic spokesperson Maria Zakharova declared that “kyiv's use of long-range missiles to attack our territory would mean the direct participation of the United States and its satellites (…) , as well as a radical change in the very essence and nature of the conflict.
“Russia’s response in such a case will be appropriate and will be felt,” she added in her statement.
The United States finally gives the green light
This Sunday, the United States authorized Ukraine to strike Russian territory with long-range missiles provided by Washington, granting kyiv's request made for months. Among the missiles that the Ukrainian forces could use include the ATACMS (Army TActical Missile System) capable of hitting a target up to 300 kilometers away.
For his part, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot reaffirmed that the use of French missiles by Ukrainian forces on Russian soil remained “an option”.
Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov estimated that the authorization given by Washington is likely to “pour fuel on the fire” in this conflict which has lasted for 1,000 days.
