The former deputy, senator and leader of the right of Island, Didier Robert, 60 years old, was on trial on Friday October 11, 2024. He is accused of having had the regional council which he chaired between 2010 and 2021, the rent for a villa with swimming pool on the heights of Saint-Denis. A living allowance “perfectly legal and regulated by the texts”, defended the former elected official who became a restaurateur.

Between 2010 and 2020, Didier Robert received €326,540 in living allowances. For questions of limitation, the procedure only covers the period from January 2016 to February 2020. For sums between €2,700 and €2,790 monthly, or more than €134,280. This “stay allowance” had been voted on by the regional plenary assembly on January 5, 2016, before the former president himself signed the deliberation.

“Bad faith confusion”, according to the prosecutor

It was based on an article of the General Code of Local Authorities indicating that the regional council can “grant the president a living allowance, within the limit of the daily allowances allocated for this purpose to state civil servants, due to the costs he incurred to be present at the regional capital to ensure the management of affairs …
