UA federal police inspector was injured Thursday in Brussels following a jet of ammonia in the face, said the Brussels prosecutor’s office, confirming information from the VRT. The victim is unable to work for at least one month. An investigation is underway.

“Two individuals tried to attack a woman in the center of Brussels on Thursday around 7:15 a.m.,” said the spokesperson for the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, Yasmina Vanoverschelde. “Two federal police officers, who had just finished their shift, witnessed the attack and intervened immediately to help the victim. The suspects fled, but one of the police officers chased them,” she said.

The police inspector managed to intercept one of the suspects, but the latter suddenly threw liquid in his face. This substance was identified as ammonia, a chemical that can cause severe irritation and burns.

The two suspects eventually managed to escape. The injured police officer was taken to hospital.

“He is unable to work for about a month,” said the spokesperson for the prosecution.

An investigation is open to find these two individuals.
