On the occasion of the first anniversary of the holding of the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Marrakech, a ceremony was organized on Wednesday, October 9 in Washington, to highlight the fruitful partnership between Morocco and these two financial institutions international.

During this meeting, in the presence of high-ranking figures such as Gita Gopinath, deputy managing director of the IMF, and Syed Tauqir Hussain Shah, executive director of the World Bank, the Moroccan ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, greeted THE “tremendous success» of these assemblies which illustrates the “long-standing partnership» between Morocco and the Bretton Woods institutions.

The Moroccan ambassador to the United States also highlighted the importance of organizing an international event of this scale in Marrakech, just a few months after the tragic earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region. This reflects the international recognition of Morocco’s determination and resilience and gives an indication of the level of confidence enjoyed by the Kingdom, under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI, on the political and economic levels, he indicated. .

The diplomat then highlighted the “fruitful cooperation» with the IMF and the World Bank. He emphasized the crucial role of these two institutions in the development of economic policies and their significant contribution to development on a global scale.

In addition, Youssef Amrani welcomed the progress made to improve the representation of Southern countries within the IMF, citing the decision to grant Africa a third seat on the Fund’s board of directors, which will contribute, he said. – he says, to remedy the growing wealth gap between rich and developing countries.

Gita Gopinath, taking the floor in turn, expressed the thanks and recognition of the International Monetary Fund in Morocco for the distinguished organization of the assemblies in Marrakech, described as “best ever held outside of Washington».

Syed Tauqir Hussain Shah also shared his admiration for Morocco’s ability to organize such a large-scale event, bringing together thousands of participants, only a few weeks after the earthquake that hit Al Haouz. He praised the success of this international event, demonstrating the country’s resilience.

The annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group brought together approximately 14,000 participants representing 189 delegations, including Ministers of Finance and Development, senior officials of the two global financial institutions, central bank governors, parliamentarians, private sector leaders, as well as representatives of civil society organizations and academics.
