The army has suspended its airspace surveillance project. The integration of the French Skyview system, for which Parliament released more than 300 million francs, was frozen in February, SRF reported on Thursday.

This information was confirmed by army spokesman Stefan Hofer. A working group sought variations this summer before the project committee admitted in September that “the new assessment presents higher risks, particularly regarding the dependency between Skyview and the new digital platform.”

The army is looking for solutions, according to SRF. She hopes for results by the end of the year and now expects the project to be completed in 2030. Commissioning was initially planned for 2025.

The army has a backup plan

Produced by the French arms company Thales, Skyview was chosen several years ago to replace Florako, introduced in 2004. By 2022, the Department of Defense had doubled the budget needed for this surveillance and control system. operations, increasing it from 155 million to 314 million.

“The risk of breakdown of the obsolete Florako system increases with each passing day,” points out SRF. But according to the army, damage remains “very unlikely”. She assures that “measures” are planned to be able to continue its mission if the system were to fail.
