Rally in Quebec: women unite their voices against feminicide

Women united their voices on Thursday to alert the population and the Legault government, while a 20th femicide unfortunately took place in Quebec this year, already exceeding the total of these deaths in 2023.

“We are here to denounce feminicides to speak of our immense concern because there are far too many feminicides at the moment in Quebec,” explained Élise Landriault-Dupont of the Regroupement des groupees de femmes de la Capitale-Nationale.

“We are also here to say that violence must not be trivialized, feminicides are the tip of the iceberg. Every time there is a feminicide, there are thousands of other women who are victims of domestic violence,” she said.

She therefore hopes that the Legault government will put in place all possible measures to avoid another tragedy and encourage women who are in a situation of domestic violence to consult the available resources.

“If you have doubts, if you have even the slightest fear, you can seek resources, the same goes for loved ones,” said Ms. Landriault-Dupont.
