The 7th edition of the Galien Africa Forum will be held from October 22 to 25 in Dakar, under the theme “Health and community actions in the face of climate and environmental crises in Africa”

The Galien Africa Forum works to strengthen research and sustainable development through the sharing of experiences in the face of major public health issues, indicates a press release from the organizers.

Nobel Prize winners, political leaders, investors, etc. will be present.

This edition, which will bring together participants from all over the world, including Nobel Prize recipients, political leaders, experts, researchers, students, political leaders, doctors, socio-anthropologists, biologists, innovators, investors, international organizations, civil society, private sector, offers a platform for high-level scientific exchanges on issues of common interest, on the health priorities of the African continent, in addition to examining the challenges and prospects in this area.

Participants in this forum will have to debate several areas, among others, “leadership and artificial intelligence: catalysts for effective health actions in the face of climate and environmental crises in Africa”, “Young people and Innovations in the face of climate and environmental crises in Africa”, » Place and roles of women in the face of climate and environmental crises in Africa? », “Vulnerability risk factors and Women’s adaptation to climate and environmental changes: Is Africa ready? » and » Role of multisectorality in the response to climate change », in addition to the presentation of the Galien Africa 2024 prize.

Africa 17% of the world population and 4% of gas emissions

Africa is the continent most vulnerable to the harmful effects induced by climate change, underline the organizers in a presentation note, adding that the effects recorded are disproportionate since Africa has around 17% of the world’s population but only contributes ‘to 4% of greenhouse gas emissions.

“Climate change is making millions of people sick or more vulnerable to disease and increasing the destructive impact of extreme weather events that disproportionately impact poor and marginalized communities,” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the WHO, cited by the note.

The first edition of the Galien Africa Forum took place in December 2018 in Dakar.
