The town of Maurecourt (Yvelines) is mobilizing against breast cancer. As recounted The Gazette du Val-d’Oiseshe is organizing a major bra drive as part of Pink October, the annual campaign intended to raise awareness among women about breast cancer screening and to raise funds for research.

On its website, the municipality specifies that this collection aims to create “a unique solidarity garland”. “Every bra you bring will become a symbol of support and solidarity,” she writes. The deadline for submissions is October 16, next Wednesday. The different collection points can be found on the city website.

The most common cancer in women

Every year, the month of October is dedicated to raising awareness and the fight against breast cancer. According to the League Against Cancer, one in two women (53%) are unaware of the risks associated with this cancer, which represents 14.8 million women aged 18 or over. It is the most common cancer in women.

“Detected early, it is generally easier to treat, with less risk of after-effects, a better therapeutic result and therefore an increased chance of cure,” indicates the League against cancer. It is therefore advisable to consult a doctor, a gynecologist, a midwife at least once a year, but also to self-examine regularly.
