Friborg MPs accepted on Wednesday a postulate asking for “rapid support in the event of harassment and cyberharassment” to be assessed. The instrument will make it possible to carry out a rapid analysis of measures to prevent and combat the phenomenon.

The postulate passed the ramp by 77 votes without opposition and 1 abstention. Co-signed by 21 elected officials and emanating from the Green MP Liliane Galley and her centrist colleague Marc Pauchard, it was supported by the Council of State, represented by the Minister of Health and Social Affairs Philippe Demierre.

Report required

The administration will now have to produce a report on the matter. The government has stated that it wants to strengthen or supplement the measures already taken to protect victims from the threat of harassment and cyberstalking, or even establish new ones. It also intends to cooperate with the stakeholders concerned.

“If the figures for school bullying are stable, those relating to cyberbullying are constantly increasing,” recalls the executive in its response. Because of the continuous connectivity offered by the internet, “for victims of cyberbullying, home is often no longer considered a safe space.”

This is why the Council of State considers that it is essential to “conduct an analysis of the different measures in force in the various environments and to develop a coordinated and coherent cantonal strategy”.
