This is not the first time that Dignity International intervenes in difficult terrain. Conflict zone, earthquake, pandemic, the members of this NGO based in Villenoy, near (Seine-et-Marne), undertake numerous actions around the world to help people in difficulty.

They obviously did not hesitate to go near the Gaza gangs to carry out sanitary operations.

“As bombings continue to devastate the Gaza Strip, […] Dignité International teams continue their crucial mission of vaccination of children against poliomyelitis »specifies the NGO in a press release.

1,232 children vaccinated in 48 hours

Dr Bassam, Dignity International’s coordinating doctor in Khan Younes, a Palestinian town in the south of the Gaza Strip, testifies to the extreme difficulties faced by humanitarians there: “Tonight [début septembre 2024, NDLR]we were bombarded after vaccinating the children. But we must continue,” he assures. In 48 hours, 1,232 children were able to receive their first dose of polio vaccine, despite the incessant attacks.

The members of the NGO were able to observe a re-emergence of polio in the Gaza Stripalthough this disease had disappeared for around twenty years in Palestine. For them, catastrophic health conditions are the cause of the return of this pathology.

The NGO fears the appearance of new epidemics

On site, Dignity International works in collaboration with Unicef, WHO and UNRWA to vaccinate as many children as possible, whether in the medical center in Khan Younes, Deir Al Balah or Gaza City.

“Thousands of children have already been vaccinated, but the countryside remains in danger from the bombings,” explains Dignity International.

“Medical teams are working in extremely dangerous conditions, putting their lives at risk every day to prevent the virus from spreading further. The destruction of health infrastructure and the deterioration of hygienic conditions also raise fears of the emergence of other epidemics, such as cholera,” conclude the members of the NGO.

Dignity International has been working in Palestine for 10 years to improve health, access to drinking water and ensure food security. In consortium with two Palestinian NGOs and a French NGO, it is currently carrying out the “Peace and Dignity for Gaza” project which aims to provide medical, psychological, nutritional and material support to the Gazan populations.
