Take out your boots and raincoats and be careful! Kirk, a hurricane that became a depression this Tuesday, will hit the Atlantic coast of France on Wednesday October 9, from 6 a.m. Nineteen departments have been placed on orange “rain-flood” vigilance by Météo France, including Loire-Atlantique, already on yellow vigilance this Tuesday afternoon.
“Sustained and lasting rains”
“Associated with the passage of the Kirk depression, sustained and lasting rains will fall on an axis going from the south of Pays de la Loire to the Paris basin”, indicates Météo France, which does not exclude an increase in vigilance during the day if the accumulations of rain prove to be very significant.
Indeed “we expect accumulations of 60 to 80 mm, and locally 90 mm in the south of Pays de la Loire”. That’s the equivalent of a month’s worth of rain in one day.
