The Stenay (Meuse) paper mill was placed in compulsory liquidation by the Bar-Le-Duc commercial court, we learned from the unions on Friday.
“The decision has been made, it is judicial liquidation,” Alain Magisson (CGT) told AFP after the court hearing.
He expressed his “anger” and his “hatred” at the announced disappearance of this company which was to celebrate its centenary next year. This liquidation affects 124 employees and an estimated 200 indirect jobs, a “huge” figure on the scale of the Meuse territory, underlined Mr. Magisson.
“We're all disgusted. It was our life, the stationery business. I've been in it for 35 years. Now we're going to have to bounce back. We have to turn the page, but it's very hard, it was a family”, added Richard Guitton (FO).
In 2023, the paper mill was sold by the Finnish Ahlstrom group to the German investment fund Accursia. She was placed in receivership on July 5, 2024.
“We will still fight for the future to attack Ahlstrom and then Accursia, we will not let our colleagues down” declared Mr. Guitton, “but this is the hammer blow”.
In a press release, the CGT-FO inter-union calls on “public authorities and economic players to mobilize to support the revitalization of the territory and offer new perspectives to families affected by this tragedy”.
