On the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Green March, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) launched and inaugurated several strategic projects in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region. These projects aim to support the socio-economic development of the southern provinces, in accordance with royal guidelines to enhance the potential of the region.
Among the projects inaugurated are the Laâyoune diesel power plant and the El Marsa desalination station. The diesel plant, with a power of 93 MW, ensures the energy security of the region, while the desalination station, equipped with advanced technologies, provides 26,000 m³ of drinking water per day while optimizing costs.
At the same time, new projects were launched, including the construction of a socio-cultural center in Foum El Oued and the commissioning of a 60/22 kV source station in Tarfaya. This infrastructure supports the region’s industrial growth and growing energy needs, reinforcing its role as an economic link between Morocco and Africa.
