In Saint-Nazaire, the Prézégat district is once again the scene of violence. On the night of November 9 to 10, five vehicles were set on fire on rue Auguste-Renoir, at the same place where shots had rang out less than two days earlier, injuring a 21-year-old young man. This new episode accentuates the tense climate which reigns in this urban area marked by omnipresent drug trafficking.

A neighborhood plagued by drug trafficking

Prézégat is a neighborhood that is struggling to find tranquility. For several months, this part of the port city has been shaken by recurring acts of violence, often linked to drug trafficking. This weekend's incidents are not isolated: the neighborhood has seen a worrying increase in shootings since the beginning of October, placing residents in an atmosphere of almost permanent insecurity. For families, daily life has become difficult, and children are deserting the play spaces that were once popular.

The police are increasing their presence in the area

The day after the vehicle fires, tow trucks followed one another this Sunday morning to remove the carcasses of the burned cars, while the police were deployed in the neighborhood to ensure increased surveillance. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of these acts of vandalism and violence. However, no injuries or arrests have been reported at this stage.

Faced with escalating tensions, the authorities are strengthening security resources. CRS 82, a unit created in November 2023 to specifically combat urban violence and drug trafficking, will be mobilized in the neighborhood from this Sunday evening. This reinforcement aims to stem incidents and restore a certain stability.
