It’s a certainty: ex-Hurricane Kirk will hit from this Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Will the and Pas-de- be affected ? Forecasters are cautious. If the hypothesis of impressive winds seems to be moving away, very heavy rain are, however, feared.

Ex-hurricane Kirk: what consequences in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais?

Hurricane Kirk formed off the coast of Senegal and headed north, driven by the Gulf Stream. “Depending on the trajectory it is taking, it could hit the French Atlantic coast, Vendée and Charente-Maritime, before rushing inland towards Lorraine and Belgium,” explains the meteorologist Guillaume Séchet (founder of the Météo-villes site) at actu.fr. Strong winds are expected as well as heavy rain.

Hauts-de-France could therefore well be affected by the phenomenon. Founder of the Météo Nord – Pas-de-Calais site, Christopher Grolewski explains in his medium-term forecasts: “Ex-Hurricane Kirk will arrive in the region between Wednesday and Thursday, bringing sustained rain, particularly on Thursday. Locally it can be a month of rain. The wind parameter is revised downwards but this factor can still change unfavorably depending on the positioning of the depression.

Today it still seems early to express certain forecasts concerning the Nord – Pas-de-Calais. As for Météo France, we warn: “Quite significant uncertainties persist on its trajectory and therefore on the level of wind in the country, but a gale is possible, particularly in the northwest. Further rain will cross the country during these two days. The forecasts will be gradually refined in the coming days, it is important to keep informed of the evolution of the situation.

Other forecasters particularly fear heavy and intense rain. This is the case of The Weather Channel which announces “heavy rain”.
