Dakar, Oct 6 (APS) – The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, welcomes the “collaborative spirit” of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), following the publication of the provisional results of a financial audit Senegalese public authorities.

”I salute the collaborative spirit of the IMF, following the disclosure of the provisional results of the audit of Senegal’s public finances [sur] management 2012-2024”, reacted Mr. Faye in a message received from the Office of Information and Communication of the Prime Minister’s Office.

”I reaffirm my firm commitment, as I said when I took the oath, to make Senegal a safe and reliable partner,” he assured.

Members of the government, including the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, denounced, Thursday September 26, 2024, in Dakar, the publication of “erroneous data” by their predecessors, Macky Sall and former ministers, concerning the public accounts of the country, debt and budget deficit in particular.

Friday, October 4, IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack assured the Senegalese authorities of the financial institution’s support for the audit of public finances.

”The authorities shared the results of the audit with our team. We will work closely with them in the coming weeks to assess the macroeconomic impact and define the next steps,” she said.

According to the Prime Minister, the audit in question revealed data deemed to be erroneous.
