On September 17, Anne Hidalgo came in person to inaugurate the new Théâtre de la Concorde, built in place of the former Espace Cardin, in the 8th arrondissement. This new municipal space aims to be the place for the “promotion of art and democracy”, an “open” and “evolving” scene, “in touch with current events”.

A steering committee

More concretely, the Théâtre de la Concorde will host workshops, conferences and shows this year. In October, for example, the public will be able to attend debates around the American presidential election, followed in November by a reflection on the results of last summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games. The events will be free.

The theater’s steering committee, chaired by historian Patrick Boucheron, brings together experts from diverse backgrounds (unionists, political scientists, journalists) who work on programming around timeless and contemporary issues such as equal rights, or the fight against disinformation, and will be organized around thematic months: women, memory, the body…

This new municipal theater has a large hall with 673 seats, a multi-purpose studio with 150 seats as well as a cinema, a podcast studio and an exhibition room. A new stage in the life of this building, built in 1772, of which the town hall became the owner in the 20th century, and delegated the concession to the fashion designer Pierre Cardin in the 1970s.
