44 major construction sites: another chaotic summer to be expected on the roads of greater Montreal

Motorists should expect another chaotic summer with 44 major construction sites that will disrupt travel in greater Montreal.

Two areas will be particularly hot: downtown Montreal, as well as Highway 40 between Acadie and Décarie boulevards, where up to 200,000 vehicles travel per day.

In this sensitive area, two complete weekend closures are planned in the west direction, the first from May 17 to 21, which includes National Patriots Day.

“For those heading towards the Montreal airport, you will have to be extremely forward-thinking, leave well in advance because it will be a very congested area,” warned Sarah Bensadoun, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation. Transport and Sustainable Mobility, during the annual press briefing presenting the spring and summer projects.

Last year, 51 major construction sites disrupted the roads during the summer, making traffic particularly difficult in the areas of the Saint-Pierre interchange and the Honoré-Mercier bridge, the Lafontaine tunnel, the city center, a central section of Highway 40 and the interchange of Highways 15 and 440 in Laval.
