Lisbon – Portugal underlined, on Saturday, the “essential” nature of the partnership between the European Union (EU) and Morocco, while reaffirming its desire to work with European partners and European institutions “to deepen it in all the domains”.

“Portugal considers that the partnership between the European Union and Morocco is essential and will work with European partners and European institutions to deepen it in all areas,” said the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release published on its official website.

Taking note of the decisions of the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) on the fishing and agricultural agreements between the EU and the Kingdom, the Portuguese ministry stressed that Lisbon and Rabat maintain, on a bilateral level, “a partnership strategic, marked by a long relationship of respect and friendship with great substance on the political, diplomatic and economic level.
In this year which marks the 250th anniversary of the bilateral peace treaty, strengthening relations with Morocco, both at the bilateral and European level, “is a strategic priority for Portugal,” underlines the same source.
