After an eventful night, the search quickly resumed this Saturday October 5 in Saint-Tropezto find a 36-year-old man missing at sea.
Earlier in the night, around 2 a.m.help was dispatched off Canebiers beach after a collision.
“It is a semi-rigid which struck a mooring box at high speed“traces Frédéric Saveuse, the president of the National Sea Rescue Society (SNSM) of Saint-Tropez.
Faced with the violence of the shock, six people out of seven were thrown from the boat. “Five came back on board, but the skipper is still missing.”he continues.
“We took care of the victims and began the search to try to find the 37-year-old man. Very quickly, a large rescue chain was put in place.“
Around 10:20 a.m., emergency services announced that the lifeless body of the missing man had been found. “It was left at the disposal of the Judicial Police Officer.”
Divers mobilized to investigate underwater
The rescue team was supported by the Issambres nautical brigade, the SMUR, a helicopter from the French Navy, but also by firefighters and police officers, stationed on the beach.
The other victims, all conscious, were disembarked in Saint-Tropez around 3:30 a.m.
They were transferred to the hospitals of Fréjus, Draguignan, and to the Gassin health center.
In support of the SNSM, a team of divers was also mobilized to continue the underwater investigations.
“The fire brigade’s mission is completed and all the resources involved have been released”, rescue services concluded this Saturday around 10:30 a.m.
