Equality: PS Valais Romand gives women a voice

Men’s speaking time limited

Posted today at 10:27 p.m.

No more than three male speeches without a woman or a person from a gender minority being able to speak. This is the resolution which was voted on Saturday by the Romand Socialist Party meeting in congress in Fully, teaches us RTS.

Not without difficulty. The debates were intense before the resolution was accepted by 56 votes for, 14 against and 6 abstentions. Opponents saw it as an injustice, a muzzling or even a facade commitment.

The proposal comes from the youth of the PS, who are already applying this on a national level. But “this is a national first for all political parties in Switzerland,” indicates Aude Rapin, vice-president of the PS Valais romand. She sees this as a way to move forward “on the path to equality”. Speaking time by gender will then be counted to make the phenomenon visible.
