Pikine, May 5 (APS) – The Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Mabouba Diagne, solemnly urged sheep breeders and sellers to sufficiently supply the market at reasonable prices, with a view to the Eid el Kebir or Tabaski festival scheduled for June 16.
”I launch a solemn appeal to our breeder friends to sufficiently supply the market with sheep and at reasonable prices for Senegalese households,” he suggested.
Mabouba Diagne spoke on Sunday at the end of his visit to the Société de gestion des abattoirs du Senegal (SOGAS), in Pikine (a suburb of Dakar), where a clean-up day was organized that day.
”It is true that you do business, he added, addressing the breeders, but also ensure that there is an abundance of sheep and at reasonable prices, taking into account the high cost of living. ”, he reiterated.
Mr. Diagne recalled that Tabaski’s sheep needs are around 810,000 head and that currently, Senegal imports between 250,000 and 300,0000 sheep.
The Minister of Livestock assured that the government “will spare no effort” to support breeders whose concerns are, according to him, at the heart of public policies.
He also praised the mobilization efforts of the municipality of Dalifort, the defense and security forces, the health and environmental services, as well as various stakeholders for this day of cleaning the SOGAS site dedicated to small ruminants.
”That’s what we want to see. This is what Senegal should look like. We will build this country together and everyone will have to make their modest contribution,” he said.
”We will spare no effort to meet the expectations of the Senegalese,” said the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock.
