The subject of debate, the Low Emission Zone (ZFE) of the Greater Paris Metropolis should prohibit, from January 1, 2025the circulation of Crit’Air 3 vehicles.

David Belliard, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of transport, announced during a press briefing on Thursday October 3, 2024, the creation of a 24 hour ZFE pass which will allow certain vehicles to circulate in the low-emission zone.

“Deviate from the rule in a certain way”

The ZFE pass will concern Crit’Air 3 vehiclesi.e. diesel cars over 14 years old and gasoline cars over 19 years old on January 1, 2025. According to the deputy, it will allow them “to deviate in a certain way from the rule” twelve times a year.

In (Seine-Maritime), a similar pass already exists and allows owners of cars outside the ZFE criteria (Crit’Air 4, 5 and non-classified) to travel twenty-four days a year in any zone of the EPZ.

The ban on Crit’Air 3 vehicles was initially supposed to be applied in 2022 before being repeatedly postponed by the Greater Paris Metropolis. But faced with pollution thresholds that are often exceeded, the former Minister of Ecology, Christophe Béchu, called on the Greater Paris Metropolis to “respect the national calendar” of low-emission zones and to enforce the traffic restriction as quickly as possible. late January 1, 2025.
