It’s wonderful to see our local authors shine elsewhere, but they also shine in prizes closer to home.

Here, in quick succession, are the books that have won honors recently.

Earlier in September, during the Eastman Correspondence Festival, the LQ Essay Prize was awarded to Gabrielle Giasson-Dulude for her book Between the walls, voicespublished by Éditions du Stir-Mage. The jury, composed of Josianne Cossette, Gérald Gaudet, Dahlia Namian and the editor-in-chief of the magazine BooksellersIsabelle Beaulieu, said this: “In this brilliant and vibrant essay, Gabrielle Giasson-Dulude questions what both elevates us and hinders us, weakens us and carries us towards momentum, constrains us and frees us from our zones of withdrawal. With writing and singing as places of origin, she searches, digs, observes and dazzles with the virtuosity with which she deploys her language, constructed on the surface and revealed by the imperative of the feeling of freedom. The author enjoins us, with her, to take part in the resonance of our voices, even vacillating and out of tune, because despite everything they are sovereign. »

The Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Book Fair has also named its winners. Thus, Soleil Launière was rewarded with two prizes during this 60e edition, namely the Discovery prize and the Poetry/Theater prize for his book Acutepublished by Éditions du Stir-Mage. Michelle Lapierre-Dallaire received the Novel/Story/News prize for her book I ask you to close your eyes and imagine a quiet placepublished by La Mèche. Frédérick Lavoie won the General Interest prize for his essay Trouble the waterspublished by La Peuplade, while Sébastien Gagnon received the Youth Prize for Mountain notchpublished by Bayard Canada.

Finally, Mélanie Bilodeau received the General Public Publication prize from the Order of Psychoeducators of Quebec for her book Be your little one’s expertpublished by Midi Trent. This was selected in particular for its rigor, its innovative character, its influence on practices, its effect on the recognition of the profession and its influence among decision-makers and the public.
