Five French boats were entered in the Olympic qualifying regattas in Lucerne from May 19 to 21. The Olympic vice-champions of the lightweight double sculls Laura Tarantola and Claire Bové will lead the selection for these “regattas of death” where it is absolutely necessary to finish in one of the first two places to obtain your ticket for the Paris Games.
Victorious at the Lucerne World Cup last year, but unlucky at the last World Championships, the PL double scull of Ferdinand Ludwig and Hugo Beurey is the other big chance of qualification. By finishing fourth at the last European Championships, the women’s quadruple sculls Aernoudts-Roche-Lefebvre-Ravera Scaramozzino showed that they also had a good card to play.
Three boats already qualified
Surprise crew of this selection, a men’s quadruple sculls will be lined up on the Rotsee. It will be made up of brothers Théophile and Valentin Onfroy, Yoann Lamiral and Victor Marcelot. A two without coxswain with Emma Cornelis and Joséphine Cornut-Danjou will complete the selection.
Reasonably, the French fleet can consider two to four qualifications which would be added to the three hulls already qualified since the 2023 World Championships, in other words the double sculls in all men’s categories (that of Olympic champions Matthieu Androdias and Hugo Boucheron) and women as well as the men’s coxless four
