Football: Aliou Cissé is no longer the coach of Senegal | APAnews

After nearly a decade at the helm of the Senegal national team, Aliou Cissé has been dismissed from his position, media sources reported on Wednesday.

Aliou Cissé’s contract will not be renewed. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) had initially considered a one-year extension. But the Ministry of Sports, third party payer, expressed its disagreement in a “ confidential letter » addressed to the body, which was forced to part ways with the former captain of the Lions, appointed coach in 2015, according to the newspaper Sud Quotidien.

The same source reports that the FSF met as an emergency committee on Tuesday and should formalize the decision this Wednesday. This dismissal would be mainly motivated by popular pressure and the growing disenchantment between the national team and its public in recent months, due to the disappointing performances of the Lions and the heavily criticized style of play. Aliou Cissé has already been informed of his dismissal, and the State would favor the appointment of a Senegalese coach to succeed him.

This unprecedented situation occurs just 48 hours before the publication of the list of players selected for the double confrontation against Malawi (October 11 in Dakar and October 15 in Lilongwe), as part of the third and fourth days of qualifying for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) scheduled for the end of 2025 in Morocco.
