Matthias Tavel is alarmed by a budget reduction of 50 million euros on the territorial postal presence contract, included in the 2025 finance bill. For the MP, this budget cut would considerably reduce La Poste’s capacity to maintain its services in rural and peri-urban areas: “This would amount to reducing by almost a third the envelope which finances the postal presence in the territories,” he specified in his letter.

Offices already weakened

The post offices of Donges, Campbon, Malville as well as those in the Saint-Nazaire Immaculée and Saint-Nazaire Saint-Marc districts are already under threat of closures, according to the MP. Despite the temporary safeguarding of the Donges office, Matthias Tavel believes that the situation remains precarious and that other offices could also be affected if funding continues to decline. “The government and the management of La Poste must stop being the architects of the decline of an essential public service,” he declares.

An amendment to save posts

To counter these closures, Matthias Tavel announced that he would table an amendment aimed at protecting the funding allocated to La Poste within the framework of the finance law. The aim is to preserve the presence of post offices in rural and semi-urban areas, which play a crucial role for residents.
