The reuse of treated wastewater is today a solution of choice to limit the water shortage and contribute to the integrated management of water resources. In fact, the Morocco faces a growing demand for water, the limitation of natural resources and their rarefaction under the effect of climate change. The potential of wastewater reuse constitutes a concrete alternative for various uses, such asirrigation of green spaces and the industrial activities.

According to data presented by the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftitthe National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program (PNAEPI) for the period 2020-2027 includes an action plan aimed at reusing the treated wastewaterparticularly for thewatering of the golf coursesof the green spaces and to industrial purposesin order to reduce pressure on conventional water resources in a context of water stress. The total cost of this component is estimated at 3 billion dirhams.

Projects have already been carried out, covering 31 golf courses and green spaces in 16 municipalities, as well as 3 projects for industrial use, mainly in cities like Rabat, Dirty, Marrakech, Bouskoura, Tangier, Tétouan, Mdiq, Fnideq, Khouribga, Youssoufia, Benguerir et Agadir. These projects concern the watering of 18 golf courses and green spaces in 23 municipalities, as well as an industrial project.
