Dakar, September 30 (APS) – The Executive Council for Sustainable Urban Transport (CETUD) announces that it has signed a “framework agreement” with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) with a view to reducing carbon dioxide emissions in transport infrastructure in Senegal.

“This partnership will be based on a sustainable approach aimed at reducing CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions and transport-related pollution. This transport program will focus on collective and active mobility, qualitative and multimodal, with low-carbon modes of urban transport,” explains a press release from CETUD.

He adds that the program he will carry out with the IFC partnership “intends to make a decisive contribution to the ambition [des pouvoirs publics sénégalais] to build viable and liveable cities”.

“The support of the IFC, for the preparation of PPP projects (public-private partnerships), will focus in particular on the specific examination of mobility needs for the axes or territories selected, the commercial aspects, the legal and regulatory framework , technical and financial aspects”, specifies the Executive Council for Sustainable Urban Transport.

The International Finance Corporation, the body of the World Bank responsible for the private sector, will contribute, on the basis of the framework agreement, to the management of “environmental and social issues” in transport infrastructure in Senegal.

At the same time, it will provide “all analysis to assess the bankability of projects” to be implemented in this sector.

“Once the state of readiness has been confirmed according to the regulations in force regarding the maturation and selection of projects, the IFC will support the CETUD in the phases of analysis and structuring of the transaction, then implementation of the transaction , while including procurement and closing of the transaction,” the statement read.

Based on the signed agreement, the two parties will “accelerate the development of a portfolio of additional projects”, with the collaboration also taking into account “already matured PPP projects”.

The CETUD, placed under the technical supervision of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport, is “a consultation framework” for urban mobility stakeholders.
