This afternoon we learned of the death of Jacques Teugels at the age of 78. This former striker left his mark on Brussels football.

In addition to the challenge of first place in the ranking, the match between RWDM and RAAL will have a very special flavor next weekend. The two clubs are indeed struck by the disappearance of their former player Jacques Teugels.

Born just after the Second World War, the Ixellois played until 1968 at Sporting Anderlecht, which he left for Union Saint-Gilloise. A Red Devil on 13 occasions, he joined the RWDM in 1971. He stayed there for six years and even won the second Belgian championship title of his career.

He then signed a final freelance contract at La Louvière, before hanging up his boots two years later, in 1979. Belgian football was therefore hit hard by his death at the age of 78. The cause of his death is not yet known.

Testimonies and tributes are beginning to multiply. Like that of Thierry Dailly, another historical figure of the RWDM: “Goodbye Jacques! You are much more than a friend, you are like a brother, a father to me. We already miss you. Thank you for everything”.

The Walfoot editorial team would like to send its most sincere condolences to the loved ones of Jacques Teugels as well as to those who knew him.
