History does not say whether this judgment will set a precedent but, in any case, the owner of a puppy who had seriously knocked down a cyclist was condemned by the courts.
The young woman who had not kept her four-legged friend on a leash was therefore found guilty this Thursday before the Angoulême police court on the grounds of “unintentional injuries”the newspaper tells us Free Charente. The story dates back to the very beginning of 2022 when, in the good town of La Chapelle, in the Charente department (16), a 65-year-old man was run over by a puppy while he was riding his bike. A heavy fall caused by the animal not being kept on a leash which will cause heavy trauma for the victim falling heavily to the ground following this road accident, including a hip fracture, requiring the installation of a prosthesis and several passes on the pool table !

Taken to court by the victim’s lawyer for involuntary injuries, the young owner, now 21 years old, of the small dog who was not insured at the time of the events, was therefore found guilty of the acts with which she was accused. by the court and sentenced to a fine of €300. Above all, deemed responsible, it must also compensate the economic damage suffered by the cyclist for his medical expenses and his temporary incapacity for work (ITT) two months following this accident.
