Mario’s life changed Thursday evening. Quietly sitting in his living room, the forty-year-old saw a car hit his facade at full speed. The shock was so violent that it caused a fire which spread to his house.

A few hours after the disaster, Mario still can’t believe it. The damage to his house is significant and it will be uninhabitable for some time. “The car hit our gas meter, which caused an almost immediate fire,” he told Nieuwsblad journalists. “Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene, but were unable to avoid causing significant damage to a large part of the house. »

“For the New Year”

Luckily, no one was injured in the accident as the driver miraculously escaped with nothing. “The driver came to apologize right after,” he says. “I think we can count ourselves lucky if we return to the house for New Years. It belonged to my mother. I have lived there for 50 years and bought it 20 years ago. »

In the meantime, Mario and his family will have to stay in their brother’s house, while waiting to move in with friends. “This is where we can stay as long as necessary,” he concludes. “We are extremely grateful to them. »

Good news: the network manager has already come to repair the damaged gas pipes.
